Essay on Journey by train
I have travelled by train many times. But these were short Journeys. One day, my father told us that he is going to Kanyakumari on a business trip. He decided to take the whole family with him. We were thrilled to hear this good news. We packed our luggage and went to Kota by train, as our real journey was to start from there. At Kota we boarded the Rajdhani Express for Kanyakumari. We travelled in a second class AC compartment.
The journey was very comfortable. We passed through many states. I looked out during the day and enjoyed the scenery all along. We saw cattle grazing, people working in the fields, beautiful flower Gardens and orchards of fruit trees. Our train made very few halts. Meals was served at regular interval. We enjoyed the delicious food.
The scenery along the Konkan coast was really very beautiful. Our train passed through many tunnels. Then we reached Ernakulam, a very clean and beautiful city. From Ernakulam, we boarded another train for Kanyakumari. This part of our journey from Ernakulam to Kanyakumari was still more enjoyable. At last we reached our destination, Kanyakumari, the southern tip of India. We can never forget our journey.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. His parents were Kaba Gandhi and Putli Bai.
As a student he was brilliant and from a very early age displayed and fostered virtues of honesty and truthfulness.
He completed his school and college education in Gujarat. Mohandas then went to England to study law and became a barrister. On completing his studies in law in 1893 he went to South Africa to practice there. It was here that his eyes were opened to the maltreatment of the Indians . His sentiments rose high and he felt he had to do something about it.
Gandhiji returned to India and started a movement to make the people aware that all must help to free India from British rule. He used non-violent methods and asked all Indians to practice Swadeshi – the use of country-made things. Gandhiji led the way by using only khadi clothes. He suffered a lot at the hands of the British rulers and was sent to Jail on a number of occasions .
The “Quit India” movement and the “Non-cooperation” movement played a great part in the freedom of India, which eventually dawned on August 15, 1947. On january 30, 1948 Gandhiji was shot dead by Nathuram Godse. In his last tragic moment he prayed for god”s help.
Many people keep animals or birds as pet. Some people keep birds, others keep cats.
Many people keep dogs as pets. I too have a pet dog. My dog belongs to Pomerian breed. it is white in colour. I call it Max. His body is covered with soft, white fur. Max is small, active, smart and runs very fast.
I love my pet dog. I take great care of it and give him bath. Every morning I take him out for walk. Thus I too am able to have a walk every morning. I feel my dog personally. I give him biscuits, bread and milk and an egg every day, and twice a week I give him meat.
In Max, I have a loving and faithful companion. He accompanies me when I move around the house or in compound. He is very fond of playing ball. I throw the ball and my dog runs after it and brings it back to me.
My pet dog is also a good watchdog. At night Max guards the house, and is very sensitive to sound. He begins to bark at the slightest noise. He keeps barking till we get up and so does the duty of a good watchman.
My pet dog is very intelligent and alert. He barks at people but does not bite them. He plays with small children and likes their company and is very fond of all the members of our family.
We love our dog very much. Visitors to our house love Max too. When we go out we take the dog in the car with us. When we go out of station, we buy a ticket for Max too and take him with us.
A dog is the most faithful of all animals. It is very devoted to his master. So someone has rightly said that human beings are second to dogs in showing gratitude.
Essay on Postman
The postman is a very integral part of our daily life. Though this the age of computes and all that goes with it, the postman still delivers letters, books, magazines, parcels and money orders which cannot b done by computers.
The postman, being a government servant has to be identified as such, so he dons a khaki uniform, a matching cap and carries a bag on his shoulder in which he packs all the post that needs to be delivered.
The work of a postman is not easy. He starts his day by reporting at the office by 9 o’clock sharp. He signs the register and gets down to the business of the day. A gunny bag full of letters is sorted out for delivering in different zones of the city.
The letters and other postal articles of one zone are taken to the respective counter and thee they are sorted street-wise and number-wise, so that the postman does not waste the time while delivering his quota of the post. Then begins the tedious part of the job, that is going from house to house to make the deliveries. The letters are easy because he just drops them into the letterboxes or slips them under the doors in case there are no boxes.
Rain, hail, sunshine or storm you will never fail to see the postman on his rounds. He has no choice as his work is a very important and risky one at the same time, as he can be identified and held responsible for the loss of any postal articles. But unfortunately, the postman gets a very meager salary.
In villages the postman’s work is more or less the same but his job is made easier as he goes on his rounds on a cycle, because the villages are far apart. But sometimes the postman has to move on unmetalled roads and has to cross muddy fields.
Then the postman has to return to the post office, make his report to the postmaster, and then if any odd jobs need to be completed, he does so and calls it a day. He returns home a truly tired man.
